Vintage Style Ladies Bicycles

It's getting to that time of year where I really want to ditch the car, and cycle everywhere. So on my bicycle-buying journey, I thought I'd go through some of the various options with my lovely readers.

This is one of my favourite black and white photos (approx 1940s).

Women look so feminine and elegant on this type of bicycle, and that's why I want one. I know I can wear my skirt , or shorts and not look quiteas awful as I would on a mountain bike ha-ha

So, we have now seen beautiful Gil Elgren style Pin-ups in real life, we need to move on to bicycle options.

 1. The first which caught my eye is the Betty made here in the UK:

The Betty, is made by the beautiful by Beg Bicycles. The bicycle costs £725 and comes in three colours, and the grocers basket costs an extra £55. What I like about this bicycle, is the workmanship that has gone into it, they have really done their research even the seat is a brooks leather tan saddle. See, a video here.

2. Then, made by the same company is the limited edition Bea bicycle:

I love this colour, and I'm sad that the Betty does not come in the same colour, but I personally prefer the grocers basket on the Betty, but I think you can customise for a price, which includes more gears and specific size. £775, see it here

Ok, so everyone has a favourite colour, and some of these bikes do come in other colours, so here's a number of vintage style bicycles in other colours (other than my favourite colour blue ha-ha). Rayleigh make a number of vintage styles in various colours and these are all currently on offer at Rutland Cycling:

3. The Cameo 700c womens Hybrid in green is on sale at just £209.99 here.

4.The Orange bicycle above is also made by Rayleigh. It's currently £249.99 available from Rutland Cycling.

5. The Rayleigh Hybrid in yellow is £245. Buy it here

6. The next bicycle is the Pendleton Somerby in Mint.  The Pendleton Somerby Hybrid is currently on offer for just £169.95
The leisure Outlet.

7. Next is the Kingston Mayfair in red, it's now £229.95 at Bikes Direct.

8. And last but not least, is this affordable vintage style bike in red (also comes in baby blue and white made by Viking and is just £149.99. You can buy it here

I really hope you enjoyed this bicycle blog, and hopefully it'll help you buy your perfect vintage style bicycle. If you know any other brands I may have missed or see any bicycles on offer, do let me know and I'll update this blog.

Love Suzy xx

To the 16 year old me : my Participation for Miss Evelyn Jo's blog

I have been asked to participate in a blog feature for Miss Evelyn Jo's website in collaboration with Dames for dreams. and when I was searching through all the old photo's of myself at sixteen, it made me think alot about how much I have been inspired by my younger self. At sixteen being different created the quirky, confident me of today and I'm happy I continued to stay different, despite bullies and the trendy kids comments of how stupid I looked.

I was always the fun quirky one in school, wearing a bright hippy rainbow jacket and seventies style blue punkyfish flares, and a spiked  dog collar around my neck, I wasn't sure what I was but I guess I was a happy rainbow-goth.I was bullied for the first two years at high school, I hadn't got rid of my puppy-fat and all the other girls seems like supermodels and loved sports compared to lazy nintendo-playing me. I was funny and always a joker but I never felt part of any groups until I was about 15-16 and started hanging round with a group of 'moshers' outside of school.

It changed me drastically, I could be myself round them, wear my 14-hole cherry doc martens with a manson hoodie and tartan kilt but when I tried to be myself round the others at school, I was just a bit too weird so felt like i had to hold back with what i wanted to wear.

We went on a school trip with art and for the first time I had the confidence to be myself, that was the moment I first wore of my dog collar and "scary shoes" in front of the teachers and school children. They were seeing the real me for the first time. I didn't care that I was different but perhaps that's because we were on holiday as per se but I felt I could be myself for the first time.

This is me on my 16th birthday, about to go out with my friends.

Sue at 16 years old. Approx December 2003

Dear 16 year old Sue,
You are brilliant, you look fantastic and you are quirky. You really suit the unique style of clothing you wear despite what looks people may give to you. People are afraid of being different, so you are showing confidence already at just sixteen. You may wear very dark  eyeliner but thats a good thing, you're skin is lovely and you don't need all that makeup like the 'cool' girls at school.
NEWS FLASH: YOU ARE NOT FAT!! and you have a great figure, stop worrying about your arms and thighs, you have a lovely body shape, so carry on as you are. Keep being yourself,  rainbows and cute Japanese, Vegetarian slogan T'shirts and enjoy life being you. Do not change yourself to fit in with the "cool kids" because in just a few years you are part of such a better group of alternative cool kids who like you as you. Your future is fantastic, travelling and great friends and supportive family.

P.S Don't get the black dragon tattoo on your thigh, mum will ground you for ages (since you are underage afterall, naughty naughty) Stop forgetting to wear your retainer and remember that Wheels and Dollbaby pencil pink dress you borrowed from Joanne?, well search for Collectif clothing or look when you visit London, you will love it.

Best Tight Brands : a review on which tights stay up? part 1

Oh my, it's the winter season again and I have spent most the working day for past three weeks pulling up my tights, which are highly likely to roll down again within 5minutes. I thought to myself last week, which tights stay up?

If you're like me, you want comfort whilst at work, so for have the last month I have been trying different types of black tights suitable for day outfits.

The first tights I bought were from Primark, I was in a rush and needed tights before work. I bought the Atmosphere brand 100 denier microfibre tights in black. They cost £5.00 and you get three pairs.

I've been wearing these most days for one week now, and these roll down constantly, they wrinkle at the ankle, which normally suggests they are too big, but according to the sizing they were right for my height and hips. I would personally give these 5/10, They are really thick though, and if they did not roll down, I'd probably buy more.

As soon as I mentioned where I bought these tights from, someone mentioned Marks tights, so I went on to buy a pair of the body sensor 40 denier tights. There was a slight diffference in price, quality over quantity and all that jazz. £6.40. The pro's, the quality fo the tights are good, and they definitely work. Our office is hot and I stayed neutral all day long.
The outcome: Yet again, I've spent all day pulling up my tights at the waist, which is disappointing.

Next, came the Shapewear tights from Peacocks. £4.00 and 40 denier. I thought if I went for shapewear tights they may stay up, they were a little more high-waisted unlike normal tights. They were slightly better than the other tights, I didn't find myself pulling the tights up until I had washed them two or three times.

So three brands and seven pairs of tights in two weeks and I am sorry to say I have not found a pair of tights which fit in this category so please comment below or watch this space I'll be reviewing another three brands next week.

You remind me of the babe. RIP David Bowie 2016

So, today is the day that has changed a lot of lives, the musical genius David Bowie has died. I can't believe it to be honest, he is someone you just assume will be around for life. We just bought and listened to his new album yesterday, so it was a sad coincidence when I heard the news at work.

From the moment, I watched The extra version of the Snowman, with David introducing the film wearing THE snowman scarf the boy is given as a gift later in the illustrated film. I've liked him from that moment, and I was too young to know his musically back then.

The next film which made David Bowie, an instant hit to me was his role in the Labryrinth as Jareth, the goblin king. This film didn't come out until 1986 so I missed the hype, My cousin in switzerland introduced me to the film a few years later and it has always been a film i've bought on both VHS and dvd through the years. I've even got the Soundtrack to it, and know most the script by heart. Fantastic films and I look forward to introducing the next generation to them in future.

It wasn't until I became an adult that I could appreciate David Bowie musically, we've all heard about his wacky costumes and look through the years but his music is absolutely genius at so many levels. he knew what would sell, and he was always far ahead compared to other music on the scene.

I only found this out after his death watching, because I honestly never noticed before but at 14 he got it a spot of fistycuffs over a girl called Carol Goldsmith. He was punched in the eye by a friend named George, this punch tore his muscle in his left eye, and despite operations, it left his eye with a permanently open pupil.

Geroge Underwood, and David Bowie ended up being life-long friends, he ended up playing in the earlie Bowie bands and he was involved in the artwork design of Hunky Dory, The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and The spiders from Mars Album sleeves too.)

We would love to hear what your favourite Bowie song was. Leave a comment below.

Day to night Winter outfit

I can't believe it's four days until Christmas Day, this year has gone so quick and it wont be long until we are in 2016. Exciting!

So, today I am going shopping for last minute presents, but then meeting friends later on, so I need a day to night outfit which  I thought needs to be slightly festive. (excuse the poor mirror selfies)

I forgot to take the photo before I went shopping, so I wore the same outfit with tights and black dolly shoes for the daytime shop (you must be comfy to walk around Manchester)

Then to glam up my outfit, I added my new Vivienne Westwood kitten heels, I have wanted these for a couple of years now, and I was very lucky to find a size 8 on ebay which were brand new and boxed. I originally saw these on the Junebugs and Georgia Peaches blog. She has them in every colour and then began my search. Cream version-check

Vivienne westwood cherry heels

I've added a few close-up photos underneath, and if you want a pair too, look on eBay for Melissa lady Dragon Cherry heels. I was very lucky to bag myself an unworn pair but add the search to your notifcations for future listings.

Rockin' around the Christmas tree.

So, tonight is the night we choose our potted forever Christmas tree from Barton Grange garden centre. I love tree's and I think it's really sad how many are cut down each year at Christmas. So, this year we are buying a living tree which we can replant in the new year or keep and repot for Christmas.

Barton Grange garden centre has various trees and decorations, In fact I couldn't believe how many variations of Christmas decorations and lights they have on display, there must have been thirty decorated trees with different themes.

Then comes the train track christmas scene, it was amazing, even has little trees and children playing on a sleigh.

This is our first Christmas tree, and I have been collecting various blue and teal  or handmade decorations.
